Programme Overview

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Botany is a two-year postgraduate program that provides advanced knowledge in plant sciences, including plant physiology, taxonomy, genetics, biotechnology, and ecology. The program is designed to develop expertise in plant biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Students engage in research-based learning, laboratory techniques, and fieldwork to study plant life at the molecular, cellular, and ecosystem levels. The curriculum integrates modern techniques such as plant tissue culture, genetic engineering, and environmental impact assessments to prepare students for careers in research, agriculture, forestry, and environmental management.

Programme Objectives

  • Provide an in-depth understanding of plant biology, taxonomy, and evolution.
  • Develop research skills in plant biotechnology, genetics, and molecular biology.
  • Train students in ecological conservation and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Enhance knowledge in medicinal plants, phyto-chemistry, and herbal drug development.
  • Equip students with practical skills in plant tissue culture and genetic modification.
  • Promote awareness of environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation.
  • Prepare students for careers in research, education, forestry, and biotechnology.

Programme Outcomes

Graduates of M.Sc. Botany will be able to:

  • Apply botanical knowledge in agriculture, forestry, and environmental conservation.
  • Conduct research in plant genetics, molecular biology, and biotechnology.
  • Utilize modern tools and techniques such as plant tissue culture and genetic engineering.
  • Assess plant biodiversity and contribute to ecological restoration projects.
  • Work in pharmaceutical and herbal industries for medicinal plant research.
  • Develop sustainable agricultural solutions for food security and climate resilience.
  • Pursue academic and research careers in universities and scientific institutions.
  • Contribute to policies and initiatives in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management.
