Programme Overview

M.Sc. in Forensic Sciences is a 2-year full-time post-graduate course which is divided into 4 semesters. Forensics is a method used to determine what happened before, during, and after a crime. Students can choose to focus on one area of forensics, such as Biology or Cyber Security, relevant to the sort of criminal activity to detect. The course may also involve an advanced study of Psychology for understanding a criminal’s mind.

Risk analysis is a major skill taught in forensics programme, which students can apply both in life and job. Some other skills needed in eligible candidates for the course would be attention-to-detail and critical thinking, analytical observation, and an eye for detail, which are useful in every facet of life. These skills help students solve problems, critically analyzing the many consequences of a single act.

Programme Objectives

The programmes provide opportunity for learners to achieve the following objectives

  • Make students familiar with the field of forensic science which includes investigating a crime by applying forensic science principles.
  • Enhance knowledge, in depth understanding and application of forensic science, policing and criminal investigation by teaching and research.
  • Develop critical and analytical subject specific skills involving the principles, practices and techniques of specific field.
  • Develop competence in research methods and presentation of information.
  • Develop skills in forensic identification, forensic problem solving either independently or as a team member.
  • Keep abreast with all recent developments and emerging trends in Forensic science, Ethics and the law.

Programme Outcomes

  • Understand application of Forensic Science, Photography and Crime Scene Management
  • Techniques of Forensic Physics, Forensic Ballistics, Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology
  • Study Forensic Dermatoglyphics and other impressions. All PSOs are helpful in forensic identification with reference to various crimes.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum percentage and others criteria for admission will be as per UGC/ Concerned Regulatory Bodies.

For National Students

  • B.Sc. (Forensic Science)/ B.Sc./ B.Tech. with any two of the subjects, viz., Anthropology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Biotechnology Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Genetics, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology / M.B.B.S./ B.D.S./B. Pharma./B.Tech.

For International Students

  • Rule framed by University Grants Commission (UGC) and notified in its website www.ugc.ac.in will be followed for deciding the eligibility and admission of International students to various courses offered in Om Sterling Global University, Hisar.
