Programme Overview
M.Sc. Radiotherapy technology is a 2-year post-graduate Science program. Radiotherapy, also called radiation therapy, is the treatment of cancer and other diseases with ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation deposits energy that injures or destroys cells in the area being treated (the “target tissue”) by damaging their genetic material, making it impossible for these cells to continue to grow. Radiotherapy may be used to treat localized solid tumors, such as cancers of the skin, tongue, larynx, brain, breast, or uterine cervix. It can also be used to treat leukemia and lymphoma (cancers of the blood-forming cells and lymphatic system, respectively).
The growing popularity of Radiotherapy technology has been drawing several paramedical enthusiasts towards the career. One of the best colleges for M.Sc. Radiotherapy technology is School of Paramedical Sciences in Hisar, Haryana which operates under Om Sterling Global University.
Programme Objectives
The specific educational objectives of the programme aim at favoring the following competencies:
- To study the Foundation of Radiotherapy technology.
- To improve the knowledge through clinical exposure and research.
- To study about Radiotherapy Technology and develop expertise in the subject.
- Develop and learn efficient teaching techniques to become an ideal teacher.
- Ascertaining and monitoring the needs of patients while operating in a comprehensive fashion to guarantee physical, psychological and social well-being.
- Motivating the choices of intervention according to criteria of scientific evidence.
- Collaborating in activities of clinical research and training.
Programme Outcomes
Radiotherapy Technology teaches the students for focusing on one of the main methods used in the treatment of cancer; this programme develops a special kind of person, who combines an interest in cutting-edge technology with a caring, people-orientated side.
Candidates can work as a therapeutic radiographer delivering a technically advanced but caring service in hospitals around the world.
This programme helps to use software and systems for treatment and treatment planning. Candidate also learns to apply theory to practice and tailor the treatment to the patient by accurately targeting high dose radiation beams and sparing surrounding normal tissues.
PT post-graduate is encouraged to pursue further qualification to attain senior position in the professional field, also to keep abreast with the advance and new technology the professional should opt for continuous professional education credits offered by national and international institutes.
Career Path
The need of educated and professional radiotherapy technologists in hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices are increasing continuously. The field of Radiotherapy will be continued to show higher than average job growth into the future. After completing your post graduate degree in this field, you will become–
- Nuclear Medicine Technologist
